Waterparks in Cyprus Alice goes with water like gin goes with tonic so we had to visit a waterpark. They seem to be all over the island and we, or rather Alice, found one only a couple of kilometres from the hotel. My heart was in my mouth as I watched her fearlessly take on death defying drops, corkscrew turns, splash pools and waterfalls. I thought back to when we tried this back home and we nearly froze, even though it was August. No such problems here, just needed plenty of sun tan lotion for Alice and we could sit in the shady ‘non-participants’ area and watch as Alice had loads of fun! Bird and animal park, Paphos “The best day I’ve had so far in Cyprus” beamed my daughter as we left the park. “OK, so what did you like best?” I asked. “There were so many brightly coloured birds and I loved the parrot show. The tricks they did were so funny although it was a bit scary at the owl show when they swooped over our heads.” Alice replied. “So you didn’t enjoy feeding the giraffes then?” I teased. “I was just coming to that bit” she said, “Their long curly tongues were funny too. How can they bend down so low with such long necks?” Whilst puzzling over that, I asked whether we should visit again. “Can we go when they have one of their theme days, I’d love to dress up as a pirate and have a parrot on my shoulder like Long John Silver?” I only hope that this takes place before we return home - otherwise I won’t be popular! Sandcastling Childhood memories of building sandcastles on a wet and windy Scarborough beach fleetingly crossed my mind as Alice and I knelt in the golden sand designing the perfect Snow White Castle. This must be the fourth beach we’ve constructed castles on and each one just as perfect as the others. We bought new buckets and spades cheaply from a beach goods store near the sands and with the spade I bought for some serious sand shifting I think I’ll try digging my way to Australia. Just one thing puzzles me… How come mum gets to sleep in the sun with the lapping waves keeping her company while we slave away? |
